Working Out in Gymnasiums That Are Not For You

A few years back, I was talking to a fellow exercise physiologist who was going to start working out in gymnasiums and he was quite taken aback when I said that I was interested in doing the same thing. He said to me; “So, you are going to start working out in gymnasiums? That’s rather old-fashioned isn’t it?” And I explained to him that although my intention wasn’t to be classified as a “flat outline people working out in gymnasiums” what I was really looking for was something that was challenging, that gave me a good workout and also that allowed me to enjoy what I was doing.

What is it that compels us to exercise and keep fit? Well, it is hard to think of a single answer to that question since there are so many different factors that motivate us to stay healthy. There are those things that we see in the TV adverts, there are those things that we hear our mates talking about at the pub or club. But it is these things above all that we need to be motivated to work towards getting fit. So my thought was to find a bodyblitz belconnen gymnasium that had all of the above factors to offer and see if I could indeed stick with it.

Unfortunately this is not always the case and I needed some reassurance that my dream of working out in the gymnasium would materialize. After going to see the manager of the local gymnasium, I realized that whilst they had all the above factors to offer, they just didn’t have the right atmosphere to encourage people to get into shape. My first encounter there was when I stepped onto the dance floor and saw only a couple of people doing a serious of exercises. It spoke little of the fitness level of the people that were working out there.

I went to see another gymnasium in the town and was quite surprised to see that there was a real atmosphere of people wanting to get fit. The people were chatting to one another and there were even children around. This gymnasium was actually run by the local council and had every aspect of fitness covered; from the fitness equipment to the music and games. In this gymnasium, it was obvious that everyone was working hard to achieve that goal.

I know that this may sound like a good place for people to drop their fitness goals but I think that some people struggle because they set such high expectations in a gymnasium. You have to keep your motivation up and it is easy to do so in a gymnasium where people look forward to working out. Working out in gymnasiums can be a great way of burning off a few extra calories when you are having a bad day. But the problem is that many people don’t take the time to really enjoy themselves while they are exercising. This is a very important factor.

A quick poll on the internet revealed that over 70% of people admitted that they do not feel any different after working out in the gym. This is evident from the amount of “likes” on Facebook, Google+ and twitter. If people are not entertained, they are more likely to leave the place and someone else will take their place. If people find it hard to motivate themselves, they are much more likely to just walk out than actually stay longer and workout. A place that does not make them feel comfortable is not one that is going to motivate them further.

I think it is important to take an honest look at your situation. You need to see if the gymnasium you have decided to join is in line with your fitness goal. For instance, if you are a member of the armed forces, then it might not be best to join a gymnasium that only caters to that specific sector. There are plenty of sports clubs that cater for people of all different sectors. So, don’t make the mistake of choosing a gymnasium on the basis that it will make you money.

It is also important to look beyond the walls and consider the environment when choosing your training facility. If the school or gymnasium has a good reputation and is located in an area where people are in a position to purchase the property, then that can be a great investment. It can definitely pay off in the long run. Just make sure that you’re working out in a gymnasium that will ultimately help you reach your fitness goal.
