Hotels And Other Water Service Providers Adopt Water Risk Assessment Techniques

Around the year 2021, a water risk assessment was done by a team of scientists and experts to highlight possible water-related threats faced by the hotel and tourism industry worldwide. The assessment targets selected areas and countries around the globe where water is fast becoming a rare and precious resource because of ongoing environmental pollution, over-use, degradation, overfishing and other environmental factors. Based on the results of the water risk assessment, a working plan for the water resource management was developed to prevent any detrimental effects on the environment and on human health. The main objectives of the water risk assessment are to provide an up-to-date assessment on the current condition of water resources in different parts of the world, to identify the sources of pollution and to provide management solutions. Based on the results of this assessment, several strategies are being implemented for water resource management.

A team of water risk assessment experts form a committee to address the issues related to water risks and present a report to the committee members with the findings on water-related risks. This assessment was carried out to address the issues of over-use and contamination of water by the hotels and resorts. It found that majority of the resorts and hotels along the tourist routes had serious water-borne diseases and other water-related threats. Some of these water risks were serious because of the proximity of the tourism industry to the wilderness areas and beaches. This resulted in a lack of consultation on issues related to water safety with the local population and also inadequate implementation of necessary measures.

There are several recommendations made on how to improve management of water risks and present solutions to environmental pollution. These include improved knowledge, creation of a management strategy and implementation of necessary procedures at the establishment level. The committee also recommends providing training to hotel staff and visitors on water safety and prevention of waterborne diseases. It also recommended that the provision of hot water systems be improved where necessary and better utilisation of cold water supply to minimize the risk of scalding. Lastly it is recommended that legislation be developed to ensure compliance with international standards relating to water systems.
